Nodusfall is an in-development, free-to-play co-op action game from HoYoverse. Players become Weavers in a broken mythological world, form parties to fight immense corrupted beasts, and use character-specific combat styles and divine powers. It debuted at gamescom on 25 August 2026. PC is confirmed through developer briefings, but there is no release date, full platform list, public beta schedule, or final launch feature set yet.
Nodusfall is a new HoYoverse co-op action game built around character roles, large-scale creature encounters, and an original fantasy world assembled from many mythological traditions. Its first public footage premiered during gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026. That trailer deliberately foregrounded mood: a divine order has failed, the laws of the world have come apart, and people known as Weavers confront the corruption spreading through legendary creatures.
The important distinction is that Nodusfall is not available to the public yet. The first reveal combines gameplay footage with in-engine cinematics, and its own disclosure says the title is still in development and the material shown is not final. Journalists played a controlled gamescom build focused on co-op boss encounters, but that demo did not expose the complete world, campaign, progression economy, or launch roster. This guide therefore explains what the evidence supports without turning a promising demonstration into a finished-game review.
Who is making Nodusfall?
HoYoverse is presenting and developing Nodusfall. The company is best known globally for Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai Impact 3rd, and Zenless Zone Zero, but Nodusfall uses a markedly different visual and mechanical language. The reveal favors grounded materials, weathered architecture, heavy creatures, muted landscapes, and realistic human proportions rather than the bright cel-shaded look associated with several earlier HoYoverse games.
That difference matters, but it should not become a shortcut for describing the game. “HoYoverse’s Elden Ring” and “HoYoverse’s Monster Hunter” are useful first-impression comparisons, not reliable genre labels. PC Gamer’s Fraser Brown, after playing the gamescom demonstration, argued that the bleak visual tone evokes Elden Ring while the contract-and-hunt structure is closer to Monster Hunter. He also stressed that the actual combat is faster, more aggressive, and more role-driven than either comparison suggests. Inven Global independently described a high-tempo third-person co-op game rather than a methodical Soulslike.
The official reveal says the footage was captured with Unreal Engine 5. That identifies the technology used for the material shown; it does not prove final PC requirements, console performance targets, or every feature associated with the engine.
What is the story premise?
The official trailer frames creation as a woven order. The Divine once held the sun, moon, stars, and the laws of different realms together. A calamity corrupted those threads, divine authority weakened, and destructive knots called the Dreadnodi spread. The Divine forged the Weavers to seek the source of that catastrophe, but those beings fell into the mortal world before receiving full enlightenment.
The player is described as one of these lost Weavers. The official video copy invites the player to travel through an era before myths were written, meet heroes, confront beasts, recover a shattered identity, and uncover forgotten truths. That gives Nodusfall two connected scales: a squad-level action loop about fighting monsters, and a personal mystery about what the player’s Weaver has lost.
Several details remain intentionally undefined. The reveal does not identify a final protagonist name, a complete pantheon, a chronological setting tied to real history, or the exact cause of the calamity. “Multiple mythologies” should not be read as a promise that every real-world legend shares one literal canon. HoYoverse describes an original world drawing on diverse mythological motifs, and the safest interpretation is synthesis rather than adaptation of a single tradition.
What does the gameplay loop look like?
The controlled gamescom demos provide the clearest outline of the current loop. Players began in a hub, selected characters and roles, accepted a contract, entered a large region, traveled toward the target, and fought multi-stage boss encounters as a four-person party. PC Gamer reported three escalating boss-style fights in its session. Inven Global described mounting up, following a visible guidance trail, pursuing a winged white-tiger creature after it fled, and finishing the hunt through continued pressure.
That evidence supports a contract-based hunt structure in the demo. It does not yet establish the complete launch map model. The world might ultimately be divided into large regions, connected zones, instances, or some combination. One press demonstration cannot prove how freely the player explores between contracts, how story quests are organized, whether towns are persistent social spaces, or what activities exist away from major targets.
Combat is real-time and viewed from a third-person perspective. Inven’s Xbox-controller account describes light and heavy attacks, charged actions, dodging, skills triggered with a modifier, an ultimate ability, and a Divine ability. Its reporter did not find a universal direct block in the character tested, but timed charged attacks could meet an incoming attack as a counter. That observation belongs to a particular development build and character; it should not be converted into a claim that no final class can block.
Is Nodusfall a four-player co-op game?
Four-player co-op is central to every detailed hands-on report so far. The demo parties divided work across recognizable combat roles. PC Gamer’s player used a large-sword tank who stayed close to targets and absorbed pressure, while another participant healed from range. Jeuxvideo.com described a tank, a support/healer, melee damage, and ranged damage in its session. GAME Watch reported reviving teammates and coordinated techniques.
Those reports show that cooperation is mechanical, not merely four players attacking the same health bar. Boss pressure can make healing valuable; different characters have distinct resources and attack rhythms; revives recover mistakes; and some high-impact sequences involve coordinated actions. The demo also appears to give characters stronger identities than a weapon-only class system. PC Gamer reported selectable and customizable characters with specific combat styles, including one demonstration character with two classes while others had one.
Solo support is less clear. PC Gamer referred to solo adventurers and groups selecting contracts, which is meaningful reporting, but the public reveal and four-player demo do not yet explain AI companions, solo scaling, matchmaking, private parties, cross-play, or whether every activity supports every party size. Treat “can select a contract alone” and “the entire game is equally designed for solo play” as different claims.
Is it a gacha game, and will it be free?
Developers told multiple press outlets that Nodusfall is planned as a free-to-play, long-term game. They also said characters are not obtained through random draws and are intended to unlock through continued play. Cosmetic monetization is under consideration. GAME Watch reported the same position after speaking with the development team: PC is confirmed, the game is free-to-play with item purchases, characters are earned through ongoing play rather than gacha, and cosmetic items are being considered as an important revenue path.
This is a meaningful commitment, but it is not a complete economy disclosure. It does not yet answer whether weapons, relics, upgrades, convenience items, battle passes, currencies, or other systems involve randomization or payment. It would be inaccurate to label the entire game “gacha-free” before HoYoverse publishes the final monetization design. The precise supported statement is narrower: the developers say characters will not be obtained through random draws.
What can players build or customize?
The gamescom build allowed character selection and visual customization. PC Gamer mentioned outfits, hairstyles, and accessories in its earlier hands-on reporting. Combat identity appears to come from a combination of character, class or subclass, abilities, and equipment rather than from a blank avatar who becomes a role solely by equipping a weapon.
Official descriptions and reports reference skills, Divine abilities, relics, and loadout changes, but the durable rules are not published. There is no verified final skill tree, rarity ladder, equipment database, stat formula, crafting recipe, or endgame build. Any “best build” page published at this stage would be forecasting from a press demo, not guiding a playable release. Nodusfall Guide will add planners only when the underlying data can be traced to a public build or authoritative game data.
What creatures and environments have been shown?
The reveal presents enormous beasts, dragons, humanoid figures, wintry arenas, dark caverns, ruined structures, mountains, and landscapes altered by an unstable sky. PC Gamer identified bears, fox-like creatures, a horned winged beast, and dragons in the footage. Inven’s demo included a flying white-tiger-like creature with wings. These descriptions are visual observations, not official species names or proof of the final bestiary.
The phrase “Dreadnodus” refers to a corrupting knot or threat in the official terminology, not automatically to every creature as a species. A beast may be affected by a Dreadnodus, serve it, embody it, or occupy another relationship that future lore will clarify. Until the game publishes names and classifications, this site will describe visible creatures plainly rather than assigning invented database entries.
What is still unknown?
As of August 29, 2026, no public source establishes a release date or release window. PC is confirmed through development-team briefings, while other platforms remain unannounced. There is no dated public beta or network test. The final world structure, launch roster, number of hunts, progression system, endgame, cross-play, cross-save, server regions, anti-cheat, accessibility suite, PC requirements, and complete monetization model are also unknown.
That list is not a weakness in the guide; it is the useful answer. A new game attracts placeholder dates, speculative platform badges, and databases that convert absence into certainty. Until HoYoverse publishes stronger evidence, the correct status for these fields is “not announced.”
